Chrissy is a voluptuous girly bun, very cheeky
indeed! She came to us as a vet referral. Her previous owners
had brought her to the surgery to be put to sleep 'because she had ringworm'
and she was 'infecting the children' and the doctor had advised her to 'get
rid of the rabbit'. The vet was of course reluctant to end the life of
a perfectly treatable bunny so she asked if we would take her on and give
her a chance. We made all the preparations to bring her in and put her
into isolation. Chrissy had some tests done at the vets and we had to
wait three weeks for all the results to come through. We had to give
her medicated baths once a week for three weeks, sterilize everything she
(and therefore we) came into contact with, and don rubber gloves and
disposable aprons when we handled her. She got very grumpy in
isolation and we felt so sorry for her.
Finally Chrissy's test results came back as
negative, turns out she didn't have ringworm at all, she never had done.
We were so upset that she had to be put through all that stress for nothing,
but it had to be done.
When she was introduced to the main body of the
rescue, she took a liking to Frosty and now they get out to play together.
She's living life to the full and one day she'll be able to move in with
Frosty and they can live happily ever after.
Update: Chrissy moved in to
Frosty's pad and caused complete chaos by rearranging all his furniture and
shredding all his lovely newspaper carpets! Frosty says "It was murder
to begin with but I'm getting used to it. Hopefully it's only a
temporary thing and she'll settle down soon, I can't take much more of this,
my life was so peaceful before she arrived ......... but I love her very
much, so I tend to forgive her ......... every day!"
Update 06/08: Chrissy is losing
her eyesight, the vet has specified that there's no tumours or abscesses
behind her eyes and that it's not EC. One of her eyes is completely
opaque, the other is heading that way too. Life is getting
increasingly more difficult for her as she is also deaf, so we have to be
very gentle around her, although Frosty looks after her really well and
gives her loads of reassurance. She's still doing everything a bunny
should and has no pain or discomfort at all, we will continue to support
her, care for her and love her unconditionally, it's the very least she
deserves.
