Donny (black boy bun) and Deedee (white girl bun) have finally come into the
CARROT rescue. They are beautiful bunnies and very very sweet.
Donny is bouncing with health but Deedee unfortunately has really bad dental
problems and will need ongoing treatment. Both buns now have free run
of our kitchen and are therefore called The Kitcheners!

Sadly, in April 2008, Donny went to Rainbow
Bridge. He'd been having
problems for a while but was coping. He managed to keep Deedee's eyes clean,
feed himself and make himself comfortable so we let him be.
Then, one day, I knew he wasn't doing so well, so we made a vet appointment,
he died in his Dad's arms in the surgery waiting room. Donny made his own
choice, I'm so glad he died on his own terms, none of the vets we knew were
on duty, it was a locum.
Donny and Deedee initially lived up in Aberdeenshire, the guy who had them
had no interest in them as they were his daughter's and she'd dumped them on
him when she couldn't look after them any more. They had no hutch and run,
they lived free range in his garden with a bucket on it's side to sleep in.
Our friend Lisa very kindly picked them up for us so we could get them out
of that situation as quickly as possible, she cared for them till we could
make room for them.
Donny and Deedee quickly settled in to our house and we called them the
Kitcheners cos they lived in the kitchen. Donny had us in kinks with his
antics, he was full of character and so very bright, we'll miss him
dreadfully.

~ Binky free wee man,
our wee pocket rocket, there's lots of glorious sunshine at the Bridge for
you to bathe in, you'll love that. Take all our love to the spirit buns
Donny and tell them we miss them so much ~

Deedee has also now gone
to the Bridge. She was doing fine, loving every minute with her new
husbun, Billy. One morning in February 2009, she didn't eat her
breakfast so we took her off to the vet. He examined her and she
needed a dental so she was taken to have this done the same day. She
had her dental done and recovered from the anaesthetic but sadly died later
on in the day in the recovery room. We were stunned, we didn't think
she'd not be coming back, it never occurred to us.
We asked the vet to
bring her body back to the house to show Billy so that he could understand
what had happened to her. We laid her down on the floor on a towel, at
first he turned his back on her and ignored her. Curiosity must have
got the better of him and he approached her body, he sniffed her and nudged
her for a bit. He then decided he'd had enough and said goodbye in his
own way by trying to cover her up with the towel.
This was a new
experience for us, we'd never seen this sort of response from a widowed bun,
it just goes to show, they do understand in their own way.

favourite positions, showing off her beautiful back leg. The above
