This adorable little bun is Fi, she came to us as
an emergency case, she was very thin and malnourished because she hadn't
been able to eat properly for a number of weeks. She was a tiny wee
thing, only a few weeks old, and for her to have this sort of problem at
such an early stage in her life was quite unusual. We believe poorly
managed breeding to be the cause.
This was Fi's teeth when she arrived. As
you can see, there is absolutely no hope of her teeth ever being functional.
Her bottom incisors cross over and grow out at an angle, her top incisors
would probably have been fine if they had been able to grind against her
lower incisors as normal rabbit teeth do. She also had a very sore
bottom lip which required a course of antibiotics:

Because of the stress her body was going through,
she had a number of other problems including mites. Her coat was in
very poor condition and she had a messy bottom because she was unable to
groom herself, her teeth were getting in the way.
We took her to the vet the day we got her and she
had her teeth trimmed back to a manageable length (using a veterinary dental
drill, not clipped) in order to let her eat and groom properly again.
We now have to wait until she has built up her strength and body weight so
that she will be well enough to have all 6 of her front teeth out.
After this is done, she should hopefully have no further dental problems,
and she will cope much better with eating and grooming.
Fi's right ear also looks like it's been stuck on
squint but it does give her a rather jaunty look! However there may
also be a skull deformity problem and when she goes in for a dental, they
will take xrays just to find out what's going on.
Despite her abnormalities, Fi is the most
adorable, friendly and cheeky little girl and has managed to endear herself
to a number of people during the short time she has been with us.
This is a more recent photo of Fi, you can
perhaps see her tooth stumps sticking out, those are her bottom incisors:

Update: Fi is now bonded to Fudge
and they are very much in love. Fi has developed a snotty nose and
needs to be nebulised twice a day. Fudge is fine and is really tee'd
off at having to be separated from Fi during feeding time. Fi doesn't
eat quite as fast as he does, and she wouldn't stand a chance of getting a
full meal if Fudge was let loose before she was finished, he has a very
healthy appetite! lol!
