Duracell Jasper (Rainbow Bridge sponsor bun)

Jasper is a lovely 9 (nearly 10!) year old albino buck.  He came to us in 2004 along with Pepsi and Snowflake when his owner, a lovely older lady, was being moved into sheltered housing and wasn't allowed to take her rabbits with her.  She was at her wits end as she'd been advertising and asking around for someone to take them in.  She eventually turned to her vet thinking she was going to have to get them put to sleep because nobody would adopt them.  The vet in turn asked C.A.R.R.O.T. if we could help her out.

Jasper hasn't had an easy life.  When he was a baby (less than a year old), the older lady had rescued him from a bunch of thugs who had been using Jasper and his brother as footballs, kicking them about the street.  It was unfortunate that Jasper's brother had already died from his injuries before she got to them.  The lady then took Jasper to live with her own two rabbits and they all lived together for a couple of years.  One day both the other rabbits turned on Jasper and nearly tore his face off.  His injuries were very severe and, as a result, he has scar tissue in his nasal passages making breathing very laborious for him sometimes, particularly when he's stressed (which is very rare nowadays!)

He now runs about in a hutch and run set-up and is never still, hence the Duracell tag.  He's turned out to be very sweet natured and loves to be held in someone's arms so he can survey all around.  He's unaltered but vaccinated.  We have no intention to have him neutered, due to his breathing problems.

Update 01/08:  Jasper is now an indoor bun, because he is getting older and the fact that he has arthritis in his front leg, we didn't want him to cope with the cold weather this winter, so he was brought in in October 2007.  He LOVES being indoors and supervises the rest of the buns in the room from his perch on the couch when, that is, he's not engrossed watching in Top Gear and Miami Ink *rolls eyes*

Update 03/08: Jasper's health started to fail, his breathing became more and more laboured, we called the vet to come out to our house.  He gently examined him and advised us it would be kinder to let him go to the Bridge.  I was distraught to say the least.  I held my wee man in my arms for which I knew would be the last time, I was trying to come to terms with it all and say good bye to him. Jasper however decided I wouldn't have to make any 'decision' myself and he left for the Bridge on his own accord with my tears soaking into his soft white coat.  I loved Jasper with all my heart, I still do and I miss him every single day.

~ Binky free my wee man, our home will never be the same without you.  I'm sure you're keeping everybun in line over the Bridge and chatting up all the pretty does!  I love you, till we meet again .... xxx ~
