There are some very talented people out
there who's work goes unrecognised, I've decided to add some of these poems
to our website.
This one is by Sarah Jane Bird, she says
'I
just felt like, so many people who run rescues
get bogged down and feel awful when they cannot save a neglected bunny, but
I feel even if they have their last days with you...they at least know some
love or happiness'
She watches, he listens
She watches as he sleeps,
Snuggled in his little bed,
She strokes him gently around his floppy ears,
And pats his little head
I listened softly while I slept,
Cosy in that little bed,
You stroked me gently around the ears,
I like it when you pat my head
She watches as he rests,
Warm and cosy by the fire,
Wishing she’d saved him sooner,
From his situation which was so dire
I look at you while I rest,
Never known warmth like this fire,
I’m so glad you saved me,
Because now my situation is far from dire
She watches him as she feeds him,
Holding back a tear,
She knows he’s slipping away,
But he should be okay, because he’s here
I watch you drop a tear as you feed me,
That tasty mixture, of apple and pear,
I know I’m slipping away,
But I’m okay, because I’ve been here
She watches him take his last breath,
As he is lying on her knee,
She whispers to him gently,
“I’m so glad you came to me”
I couldn’t see you watching me,
Because I couldn’t see,
But I did feel you whisper,
“This wasn’t how it was meant to be”
She watched him and stroked him,
And then she said goodbye,
It broke her heart that she couldn’t save him,
As he left for the bridge in the sky
I listened to your soft words,
As you fondled my silky ears,
My eyes not so bright,
But I could see you had some tears
If only I could tell you,
Your efforts were not in vain,
You showed me comfort, you showed me love,
You helped me live again
And when I’m at that bridge in the sky,
I wont feel sad at all,
Because I got to come to you,
And feel the greatest love of all
Isn't that beautiful? Thank you
Sarah Jane for allowing me to add your poem here :)
~ oOo ~
this one is from Pam, I should
perhaps explain that, in my circle of friends, I am renowned for wearing a
vest for most of the year *blushes furiously*
OMG it's finally here
Lynda has aged another year
To celebrate let's dress in our best
and all put on our cleanest vest
We'll wear our vests come hail or sun
To celebrate the Semmit One
The one who wears a vest with pride
her bumpy bits she wants to hide
For even on this special day
Lynda will turn to Jim and say
I'll give you a special birthday squeeze
But first pass me my vesty please.
For Lynda is protected in her vest
She will not get hay in her chest
and her feet are protected too- from stink
In her lovely wellies - pink
Yes Lyndas wellies may look cool
But really its a case of vesties rule
she wears a vest in all she does
you'll never see her in the scuzz!
The bunnies as they sit and rest
ponder on our Lyndas vest
among themselves they often blether
why the vest is worn in any weather
ah if I could only tell
the secret I have kept so well
cause no one else will ever guess
the truth that lies behind the vest
but I will now at last reveal
the secret that the vest conceal(s)
but you must never tell another
not your mum and not your brother
Many years ago on planet bun
a child was born - the chosen one
sent to earth to live these years
caring for those with floppy ears
Spiderman had a web to wear
Superman's pants got him through the air
Batman had a rubber suit
and wonderwoman her shiny boot(s)
So the superhero clothes shop was almost bare
when Lynda arrived for something to wear
The other heroes had taken the rest
And all that was left was a tatty old vest
It's label said "this vest is for caring
for loving and giving and grooming and sharing
This vest is waiting for someone to grab-it
and devote their life caring for rabbits"
Since she was from the planet bun
Lynda knew she was the chosen one
The one the vest was meant to wear
The one for bunnies was meant to care
So wearing her vest with pride each day
Lynda dishes out hay
and cleans out bunnies great and small
the power of the vest gets her through it all
So here's to that woman - that superhero
who donned the vest those many years ago
Lynda - you are just the best
In your wellies and your vest!
