   Snowball (Sponsor Bridge Bunny)

Snowball is a pretty lemon and white lop.  She came to us from the vet (see flystrike story). We are unsure of her age but is estimated to be around 2 years old.  She's also friendly, tolerant and sweet natured.  Snowball is very overweight at the moment, and we are putting off spaying her until she's slimmed down a bit.

As she has had flystrike before, we need to be extra vigilant with her care and hygiene.

Snowball is a houserabbit and she loves lounging around the livingroom, watching telly.  She's not afraid of household noises or calm dogs, and loves being the centre of attention.

We have decided to keep Snowball, as she has problems with her spine (probably as a result of being excessively overweight at one point).  She recently lost the use of her back legs, but after rest and veterinary treatment, she has now regained some mobility (enough to jump up on the couch!).  She has remained loving and sweet natured throughout, and now we feel she deserves all the TLC and attention she demands!

Update 12/04: She was spayed recently and the vet discovered that Snowball's ovaries were cystic.  She had shown no sign of any pain or discomfort.  However, one of the symptoms of this is a hormone imbalance (which would probably explain why Bear was so enamoured by her! ), and she would have been a prime candidate for cancer at a later stage.  Thank goodness it was caught in time!

Update: Snowball has developed splay leg in her front legs which means she has more difficulty in moving around, but this doesn't hinder her at all.  When she sees us coming towards her with her food bowl, she shoots across the room .... unfortunately in the wrong direction as her legs don't go the way she wants them to *rolls eyes*, we do try not to laugh...

Update 02/06: Snowball is now a celebrity, she features in the RWF magazine, Rabbiting On, as a sponsor bunny!  AND, as of December 2006, on the Snugglesafe website modelling her food dish!

Update 01/07:  Snowball now has a new trick, she somehow manages to dislocate one or other of her front legs *feels sick*.  It doesn't seem to hurt her or put her off her food and it clicks back into place easily, so easily she manages to do it herself sometimes!

Update 01/08:  Snowball has had a good year but her splay legs have worsened, one leg in particular dislocates more often, and her movement is a lot more limited, but she's still a happy girl and gets around when ever and where ever she wants, she's thoroughly spoilt!

6th November 2008, Sad News...

Our beautiful little girl, Snowball, has gone to Rainbow Bridge, she was around 8 years old.  To say we are heartbroken is an understatement, she has left a huge hole in our lives and an indelible paw print in our hearts.  Every day at the moment is a bit of a struggle, but night times are worst, that's the time when we allow ourselves to think.  It's like the heart has gone out of Carrot Castle.

Snowball's last day with us was very much a normal one, she was happy, comfortable and content.  She ate all her supper like the good girl she was, and we settled her down for the night.  We'd had a baby monitor rigged up for a good few months, so that we could hear if she was struggling through the night or had fallen over and couldn't get back up, which happened quite regularly.  On the night of the 6th, she set the monitor off and Jim got up to see to her.  He found her breathing heavily, he picked her up and she passed away in his arms.  It was all so very sudden and not in the least bit expected.

As in most cases, we allowed the vet to carry out a post mortem, mainly so that if there were any abnormalities found, it may help other bunnies in the future.  The vet didn't find any obvious reason for her death, all her organs were in good working order, the only indication he found was that her heart was slightly enlarged on one side, but, he thought, not enough to be fatal.

In her life, she's been a big part of CARROT rescue, she was featured as our ambassador for the RWAF 'Rabbiting On' sponsor scheme, and found fame on the Snugglesafe website, advertising her very own lovely food bowl.

This is one of our favourite photos of Snowball, she loved her fluffy snake cushion:

~ Binky free sweetheart, you know how much we loved you and you'll know how much we miss you.  Run and jump and leap, and make full use of your new legs.  Thank you for allowing us to be your family.  Till we meet again, take all our love to the spirit buns and tell them we miss them so much ...... and your Daddy sends an extra special hairy kiss just for you ~
